Your tasks

The professorship plays a central role in the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in ‘Architecture and Urban Design’ with the overarching theme of ‘urban architecture’, which encompasses all areas of teaching. It teaches the history and theory of architecture and urban planning from its beginnings to the modern era and the present day.

Some of the courses are part of the curriculum for the conservation and restoration programme. The professorship is expected to strengthen the international and interdisciplinary orientation of the department at the interface between urban planning, architecture, restoration and building preservation.

We are looking for a scientifically proven person who:

  • is committed and enthusiastic about holistic and competent teaching,
  • teaches the basics of architectural and urban history in the basic studies and deepens specific aspects of the historical consideration in the higher semesters of the Bachelor's and Master's programmes,
  • represents the field in teaching, research and transfer,
  • if applicable, participates in architectural and urban design,
  • actively participates in strengthening the profile of the degree programme and the university.

Your qualifications

  • You fulfil the legal enquirements for employment according to § 43 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act and have a completed university degree, preferably in art history (with a focus on architectural history) or architecture; pedagogical aptitude; a particular aptitude for scientific work and can prove this with a qualified doctorate or equivalent, as well as special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least three years of professional practice, at least two years of which must have been spent outside the university sector. Proof of professional practice outside the university sector can also be provided by the fact that, over a period of at least three years, the majority of the professional activity was carried out in cooperation between the university and non-university professional practice.
  • You have excellent knowledge, research experience and research results in the field of the history of architecture and urban planning, as demonstrated by specialist publications and participation in conferences and conventions.
  • You have experience in undergraduate and postgraduate university teaching and can demonstrate this through teaching concepts, teaching examples and, ideally, teaching evaluations.
  • You are active in research and can demonstrate this through research results or successful third-party funded projects.

Beyond that, we would like you to

  • further develop our didactic principle of research-led teaching through specific research and transfer formats that are interlinked with teaching,
  • be open to developing digital teaching formats and courses in English,
  • participate in interdisciplinary courses,
  • are committed to raising the profile of our focus on „Built Space: Design, Build, Preserve",
  • further develop our regional and international cooperation in teaching, research and practice,
  • have passion and resilience for teaching, research, transfer, academic self-administration and inclusive departmental development,
  • have experience in the acquisition of research and practical development projects
